Jim's Car Collection
Jim Lucht is a well known Saab and Volvo enthusiast and mechanic in the Cranston/Providence area of Rhode Island. Jim has owned many different Saabs and Volvos throughout the years, and has many stories to go with them. I was fortunate enough to be able to see some of his car collection. He has restored a number of these cars in this collection, such as the Volvo 242 and the P1800. At the time, he was in the process of restoring a Citroën DS. The two Volvo 240s were his neighbor's cars. His 900, which you'll see below, will appear again on this site, so keep an eye out!
1978 Volvo 242 GT
This may look like an early model Volvo 240, but if you look closely and know your Volvo history, then you'll know what this is! This is a 1978 Volvo 242 GT, one of the most sought after classic Volvos, and one of the more rarer ones.
Jim has completely restored this 242 to its original state when it left the factory in Sweden. According to Jim, it was a west coast car bought in "survivor" car condition. It was then involved in an accident, in which Jim had the whole car completely repainted and restored to what you see here.
1966 Volvo P1800 Coupe
According to Jim, this is a very rare car of the Volvo P1800 family, due to the rear fins on the back end of the car. This is also an amazing example of one.
1993 Saab 900 S Combi Coupe
Jim's '93 Saab 900 is a really great example of a classic 900. It has the desirable 5 speed manual transmission paired with the 16 valve engine. This car has the iconic tri-spoke Saab rims. He also added the rear window louvres and cargo rack on the roof.
This is the non turbo variant of the 900, meaning it has a naturally aspirated engine, and makes less power than the turbo 900s. The "S" model gets you leather seats and power interior accessories, something the base model didn't get. 1993 was also the last year of the classic 900 body style, before the second generation debuted in 1994. The convertible variant was kept in this body style until '94, before changing to the updated version in '95.
