1981 Volvo 244 DL: An Unexpected Find
While out on a bike ride, I came across this early model 244. This was spotted at Andy's East Coast Speed, a high performance tune up shop in Cranston, specializing in primarily American muscle cars. That made seeing this old 240 there all the more unexpected.
For one, we all know that a 240 is not known for its speed, and two, Andy's lot is usually filled with muscle cars, although below, you can see an '80s Chrysler Town and Country K-Car, which is also another ironic car to find at a high performance garage!
This 240 appears to be visiting us from New York, which makes the mystery of how this car wound up at this location even more puzzling. I suspect it probably just needed a tune up, and being that Andy specializes in older cars, its owner brought it there.
Other than these interesting circumstances, this was one clean 240. Like most of the old Volvos I've found, there was the typical signs of age, but that can't kill an old Volvo! Of all the 240s I've found so far, I think this one is definitely the most unique (aside from Jim's 242 GT), being that early '80s models are usually uncommon to find.
A few years later, in March 2023, I came across a very similar '82 240 sedan, which I often wonder if these two were the same car. They both show similar signs of age, but when comparing the photos, there are some small differences.
