Saab and Volvo Spotting - Summer 2022

This summer was pretty eventful for car spotting. A lot of the other cars spotted this season will end up with their own entries, as I think they're deserving of them. Otherwise, the summer haul for this year is nothing to laugh at, especially with what we're starting off with!

July 7, 2022: 1971 Volvo P1800E

We return back to Jake's house, the owner of the white 900 Turbo and the blue 95 wagon. This must be one of his other cars, but at the time, he was in the process of selling it. 

This is of course the iconic P1800 sports car Volvo offered through 1961 and 1972. The P1800 was, and still is, one of Volvo's best designed cars. The P1800 is styled so beautifully, from front to back, there isn't one foul curve. I really love the paint on this car, and I don't think I've ever seen a Volvo in this color. The color is known simply as "Turquoise." Sometimes there is beauty in simplicity. 

July 17, 2022: European Classics: Volvo 740 Estate and a Mercedes Benz 300E (W124)

This collection of Euro classics was spotted by Sam, while out on a bike ride. 

Sam: "This household definitely likes their European cars! And I can't really fault them for that since they've chosen very reliable models to own and maintain. The Volvo 740 has a rap for reliability just like its predecessor, the 240, and everyone knows you can't kill an old 300 series Benz. This one is a bit newer than the more iconic '80s 300s, but it's still a nice car. These are two nicely-maintained-almost-a-classic cars that will probably run for a long time if properly cared for.  And with that we're at the end of my mini-ride.  I hope you enjoyed seeing my finds as much as I did finding them!"

August 13, 2022: Volvo 240 w/ Mismatched Rims

This summer, I worked as a roadie and videographer for a wedding band. Their storage space was located in Weymouth, Massachusetts, so I was constantly making the trip up to drop gear off. This specific day, this Volvo happened to drive past me as I was waiting for the band leader to arrive and unlock the storage space. This 240 was clearly a daily driver, and a small project for its owner. I like the mismatched rims, but hopefully the owner gets a full set of the Volvo poverty caps. Those look best on a 240 in my opinion. 

August 10, 2022: Saab 900 Turbo Combi Coupe

This classic Saab was spotted by my mother on I-95. Thanks for the find, mom!

Volvo 240 Estate

This 240 was sent to us by Sam, who spotted it while on vacation in St. George, Maine.

Sam: Not too far from our cabin was this old 240 wagon. Come to think of it, I think I've seen this wagon around before a few times, or another gold one just like it. I didn't manage to determine whether this was an auto or manual car because some random guy from Rhode Island peeking into a parked car would look fairly suspicious. This one looks to be fairing well and even has all its trim.  The only defect I can see is the missing hubcap, which can easily be remedied."

September 3, 2022: Saab 900 S Convertible

This ultra clean 900 'Vert was spotted by Sam at a car show in Pennington, New Jersey. This is probably one of the cleanest 900s I've ever seen.

Sam: "Yeah, this one was pretty nice. I don't think the seats had any tears in them or anything and the paint was spot-on."
